The gradual development of the control systems and management of information about the organizations environment through measurement systems made, in this day and age, the reflection of reality. For the Brazilian franchise system this relationship is not different, evidenced by the variation of more than three times the amount raised in comparison to gross revenues achieved since 2001. Given this scenario of growth, this article has for primary objective to propose a performance measurement system for a segment of existing franchises in Brazil, through the elaboration of indicators related to external factors considered business critical success factors, based on financial and non-financial data made available publicly by the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF). As a result, five performance indicators were developed for the system in question, in addition to the application of this model in a specific thread within the franchise system for the purpose of analyzing the information obtained and testing the reliability of the parameters used, identifying both that the model is reliable in accordance with the criteria established

Purpose – The development of a model to measure and assess the performance of start-ups in a standard incubation process, based on 99 critical success factors identified as the most relevant for the context.Design/methodology/approach – A total of three sequential steps were developed to reach the objectives proposed (Problem overview; modeling; and usage). The model was tested on four development stage incubation processes start-ups and three maturity stage incubation processes start-ups, located at the Technological Incubator of Santa Maria (ITSM).Findings – After the modeling phase, compromising results were found for only one developed stage start-up evaluated. Meanwhile, for the maturity stage, all three evaluated start-ups are competitive. To support the strategic decision-making process, the scores obtained were stratified to diagnose which perspective may compromise the performance of each start-up.Originality/value – This research proved to be adaptable to the decision context, thus being amenable to be used in different scenarios. The model presented in this work is composed of a systematic tool suitable to support the continuous improvement and learning processes for incubated start-ups, in specific to measure and assess the performance of start-ups.

Correct product portfolio management is one of the feasible ways of ensuring competitive sustainability before continued market evolution whereby decisions to maintain or exclude an item from the sales offering drives consequences that impact both internal and external contexts. In alignment with this standpoint, the purpose of this study is to identify and pinpoint the conceptual framework on product portfolio management, particularly in as much as existing applications centred on manufacturing sector firms is concerned, so as to allow for the envisioning of possible opportunities of fostering future investigations on the subject matter. To this effect, theoretical-conceptual research was conducted, starting with the primary definition of how this field of study is explored right through to the bibliometric review of existing publications. The end result was the identification a gap in research that focuses on portfolio management at manufacturing companies, particularly in Brazil where only two studies centred on this theme were found, although the country hosts more than 30 types of organizations of this kind.

This study aimed to conduct an assessment of the technical efficiency of Business Administration courses in Brazil, by means of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a nonparametric technique introduced by Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes (1978). Were used as variables in the model the eight component indicators of the Preliminary Concept of Course (CPC) to evaluate 1229 courses of Business Administration based on the results of the National Examination of Performance Evaluation of Students (ENADE) of 2009, obtaining as result that only 1.2% of these can be considered efficient. After this measurement, a step of recommendations was made to propose goals for the inefficient courses, thus bringing to light that better results can achieved given the inputs already available for Business Administration courses.

Startups are innovative companies that live in uncertain environments. This research aims to characterize the conditions and variables that influence the development of startups in the context of the Brazilian economy, so that understanding is reached about the characteristics of their businesses and how the environment acts on them. An evaluation instrument is developed that assists in the validation of critical factors, as well as the KPIs necessary for the practice of the instrument. The study presents, through bibliographic research, a theoretical proposal of critical success factors that receive the assessment of stakeholders who are in daily contact with the reality of startups. The results demonstrate the impact of critical success factors on the development of startups, according to the perception of stakeholders

The present paper describes a methodological framework developed to select a multi-label dataset transformation method in the context of supervised machine learning techniques. We explore the rectangular 2D strip-packing problem (2D-SPP), widely applied in industrial processes to cut sheet metals and paper rolls, where high-quality solutions can be found for more than one improvement heuristic, generating instances with multi-label behavior. To obtain single-label datasets, a total of five multi-label transformation methods are explored. 1000 instances were generated to represent different 2D-SPP variations found in real-world applications, labels for each instance represented by improvement heuristics were calculated, along with 19 predictors provided by problem characteristics. Finally, classification models were fitted to verify the accuracy of each multi-label transformation method. For the 2D-SPP, the single-label obtained using the exclusion method fit more accurate classification models compared to the other four multi-label transformation methods adopted

Retrofit de contêineres na construção civil

The solid waste reuse affects all society sectors that have committed to generate the smallest possible impact in the environment. Professionals in the construction industry, from which comes an important part of solid waste, rethink their project decisions about the use of conventional materials, evaluating on a case-by-case costs and benefits of their choices. The recycling or reuse of solid waste in building became a reality and their prudent use a necessity, a fact that enhances the role of academic research involving the subject (Carneiro; CASSA ; BRUM , 2001). Among the materials investigated thoroughly is the container, discard material that can become a problem for the public space and nature, but that is slowly gaining market share due to advantages associated with cost , speed of assembly , durability and reuse residue, or retrofit , which substantially decreases (dis) advantages that this type of architecture might suggest, many of them conditioned to merely esthetic analysis (ZOMER , 2009).O reaproveitamento de resíduos sólidos influencia todos os setores da sociedade que têm se comprometido em gerar o menor impacto possível no meio ambiente.
